Ex-wife Accused Of Hiring Man To Kill Husband With Car Bomb

Pamela Phillips is accused of hiring a former boyfriend to kill businessman Gary Triano to collect on a $2 million life insurance policy.
Lawyers for a woman charged in the 1996 Tucson car bomb killing of her ex-husband say their client had nothing to gain from his death, that she was a successful real estate broker with her own assets.
Prosecutors, however, describe Pamela Phillips as a gold digger who hired a former boyfriend to kill businessman Gary Triano to collect on a $2 million life insurance policy.
Opening statements in the case began Wednesday.
Phillips has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The ex-boyfriend was convicted in 2010 and sentenced to two life terms, though jurors aren't allowed to consider his case while determining Phillips' fate.
Triano, a Tucson developer, died Nov. 1, 1996, when his car exploded outside a country club.
