The relative peace between the nation’s two major political parties arising from the spate of insecurity in the land was shattered yesterday after Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and major political parties tore at one another over alleged indiscretions.
The PDP, at a press conference in Abuja, lampooned All Progressives Congress, APC, and its leaders and notably, the governor of Kano State who was vilified as an ingrate.
The APC, in a riposte, ridiculed PDP as a clueless and callous party, saying that its spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh, was diligently training himself to become the spokesman of the opposition after the 2015 general elections.
APC particularly accused PDP of mischief in its denunciation of the APC gubernatorial rally in Ekiti State, saying that its rally was remarkably different from what it called the PDP’s “Azonto dance party” in Kano just hours after the first Nyanya bombing last month.
PDP, in a statement by its National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, vilified Kwankwanso for his recent attack on PDP, saying “whilst the PDP recognises the inalienable right of citizens to hold opinions and identify with political platforms of their choice, we indeed find it very difficult to understand the type of bitterness that have taken hold of an elected person like Governor Kwankwaso who hugely benefitted from PDP on which platform he was twice elected governor in addition to being appointed minister.”
APC, in its statement, apparently reacted to the PDP statement of last Wednesday where the ruling party described the opposition party as one that celebrates terrorism on account of its campaign rally in Ekiti, a day after the Jos bombing.
It said: “Despite the presence of musical groups and other performers, all musical breaks in the programme and all other scheduled performances were cut out, while the rally itself was drastically abridged.
“There is no doubt that the PDP’s spokesman did not bother to get the full details of the rally before rushing to the media.”
