Court Finds Fmr President Olusegun Obasanjo Guilty Over Book Launch!

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in his new autobiography "My Watch", released the new book, Tuesday, in Lagos, days after the court order of putting the book Launch on hold.
Due to the nature of the content, Buruji Kasahmu attempted to use a court order to block the publication of the book due to a drug trafficking allegations against him in the book. President Jonathan also personally contacted the former president to appeal that the book not be published until next year, after the 2015 presidential election.
Despite this My Watch launched yesterday, Dec. 9, in Lagos, in the presence of prominent political figures and officials.
In the Review of the three-volume text, the court said it was guilty of character contempt and ordered it put on hold.
However, details gathered that some of the pages characterize Mr. Jonathan as weak, callous and incapable of managing Nigeria.
He also criticizes the handling of the Boko Haram insurgency crisis, the PDP, and the Governors Forum, among other things.

6 Things To Understand When Talking About Abortion

Recently, a talk radio host interviewed me about abortion. He asked me repeatedly, "What about these abortions of babies at 8.5 months!" I tried to explain that his question had two misnomers that needed correcting before I could comment further. As this example illustrates, the terminology surrounding abortion can be treacherous. Errors are sometimes due to naiveté; at other times the misuse is intentional. Even medical professionals commonly misuse abortion terminology. Here are some common problems in the lexicon of abortion.
What is abortion?
Abortion is the removal of a fetus or embryo from the uterus prior to the stage of viability. (1) Definitions vary as to the timing of viability, with some using gestational age and others using fetal weight. In general, independent life outside the uterus becomes possible around 23-24 weeks of gestation at the earliest. (2)
"Third-trimester" abortion: an oxymoron
Any termination of pregnancy after viability is not an abortion, according to medical (1) and lay (3) dictionaries. If a pregnancy is terminated at 8.5 months because of fetal anencephaly (no brain), then that obstetric intervention is not an abortion. It might be a labor induction, a hysterotomy (a mini-cesarean delivery), or pregnancy termination, but not an abortion. This fact is not widely appreciated; the medical literature has articles with "third-trimester" abortion in the title. (4)
Abortion opponents have claimed that large numbers of "third-trimester" abortions were being done. In response, investigators at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reviewed all reported pregnancy terminations at 25 weeks and greater in Georgia over a two-year period. (5) Nearly all reports proved to be clerical errors. Three pregnancy terminations were correctly coded: Two were done because of fetal anencephaly, and the indication could not be determined for the third.
"Late-term" abortion: another oxymoron
In obstetrics, "term" delivery means delivery after 260 to 294 days of pregnancy (37-42 weeks from last menstrual period). (6) Thus, "late-term" abortion would be near 42 weeks. As explained above, this is not an abortion. "Late abortion" is imprecise but acceptable language, but "late-term" is a misnomer.
Who resides in the pregnant uterus?
The occupant in the uterus is first an embryo. After its organs have formed (around eight weeks), the embryo becomes a fetus, a status that it holds until birth. Contrary to the talk radio host, the occupant is not a baby, child, or infant. (3) Once a fetus is born, it graduates to one of these designations. Thus, one cannot abort a baby, child, or infant; they do not reside in the uterus.
Some abortion opponents use even stranger terms: the "pre-born" or "unborn." In general, we are characterized by what we are, not by what we are not. I am not designated "post-born" or "pre-deceased." When I die, my status will change to cadaver or corpse. However, calling me a "pre-cadaver" or "un-dead" today would be confusing.
"Partial-birth" abortion: a distinct non-entity
This is a political, not a medical, neologism designed to inflame. The term is not found in medical texts or coding manuals. It was coined by opponents to describe an uncommon procedure for second-trimester abortion, intact dilation and evacuation. A brilliant public relations ploy, the term conflated two diametrically opposed conclusions of pregnancy, birth and abortion, in a single term. (7) Thanks to politicians, a procedure that has been in obstetric texts (6) for centuries has been made illegal, based esthetics and not on safety.
"Pro-life"?
Opponents of abortion are commonly called "pro-life." In my experience as a physician, a more accurate designation would be "pro-birth." Interest in the life of the child (and especially his or her mother) usually dwindles soon thereafter.
Incorrect, misleading, and inflammatory language obfuscates, rather than illuminates, the discussion around abortion. Words matter. We should all choose them carefully.

2015ElectionPrimaries: APC Presidential Primaries Update.

At least 8,000 delegates of the All Progressives Congress [APC] are gathering at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos today – Wednesday – to pick the party’s flag-bearer for the February 14 presidential election.
The delegates, both elected and statutory, drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, will choose from the five aspirants who are asking to be the party’s candidate for the election.
The aspirants are (in alphabetical order) former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari; governor of Kano State, Rabi’u Kwankwaso; his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha and the publisher of Leadership newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
Whoever of the five is selected at the primaries will face President Goodluck Jonathan, who is being ratified later today in Abuja as the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], having earlier been chosen the party’s sole candidate.
In the last three months, the five candidates have traversed the country selling their programmes to party supporters ahead of today’s presidential primary.
So far, their campaigns have been decent, apparently in adherence to the party’s stern directive asking them not to engage in mudslinging and character assassination.
Discreet attempts by some party leaders to pick a consensus candidate among the aspirants were unsuccessful. All five contenders preferred to go into today’s contest, believing they could secure victory in a credible primary.

LETTER TO THE DELEGATES OF ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, APC, DURING THE NATIONAL DELEGATES CONVENTION
My Dear Delegates,
As you gather for our convention, please remember that history, change and the hopes of Nigeria are there with you. They are there to ask you to perform according to your best judgment and patriotic conscience. I also ask you to do the same.
We seek a new Nigeria. It starts with us. It starts today. I have placed myself before you seeking your help to nominate me as your standard bearer for our progressive party, APC.
Personal ambition does not drive me in this regard. I seek to be the next president of our beloved nation because I believe I have something to offer Nigeria at this time of multiple crises. Insecurity, corruption, and economic collapse have brought the nation low. Time is past due that we work together to lift Nigeria up. I am ready to lead Nigeria to its rightful future.
I have always served Nigeria to the best of my ability. I have always tried to give more to the nation than it has given me. This is the principle of service that has guided my public life. Thus, I am not a rich person. I can’t give you a pocketful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale.
What I will give you, and this nation is all of my strength, commitment, sweat and toil in the service of the people. What I can give you is my all.
I do not intend to rule Nigeria. I want to democratically govern it with your help. I seek a Nigeria where Christians and Muslims may practise their faiths in peace and security; a Nigeria that is just and where corruption no longer trespasses into our institutions and national behavior and a Nigeria where our diversity could be used for our national prosperity.
Nigeria is our home. Let us now turn it into the great nation we know it can and should be.
I thank you all
Muhammadu Buhari (RTD) GCFR

Again Sam Nda Isaiah Refutes Rumours Alleging His Stepping Down, Insists That I Am In The Race To The End

It seems that the stories allegedly making the rounds that the publisher of the Leadership Newspapers and APC presidential candidate, Sam Nda Isaiah had stepped down for General Muhammadu Buhari is untrue.
This rumour has been refuted in a press statement released by the Director of Publicity, Mr. Igboeli Arinze.
Mr. Arinze who described the story as wicked and untrue blamed Sahara Reporters and the Nigerian Television Authority which had also tweeted the rumour.
“I wish to state that at no point in time, now or in the past was it ever considered by our principal that he would step down for any aspirant, so those spreading such rumours are only wasting their time as the stories have no truth in them.
Again, before such rumours began receiving propagation, I had expected those who used it to have reached out to us here to either confirm or get the repudiation, it is the social responsibility of these media houses, but unfortunately they did not do so and went on to publish it.
As Director of Publicity of the Sam Nda-Isaiah Campaign Organisation I wish to refute these stories making the rounds that Mr. Nda Isaiah has stepped down for any aspirant, Mr. Nda Isaiah is in the race and he is in the race to win. We are hereby refuting this story and are also calling on the media houses that used it to retract it.”

#2015PrimariesElections: PDP Presidential Primaries Updates.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has today begun its two-day National Convention at Eagles Square, Abuja.
Top on the agenda of the convention is the ratification of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s candidate in the February 14 presidential election and that of Adamu Mu’azu and Wale Oladipo as the party’s national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
Over 3,050 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected at the convention.
The delegates, according to the party’s spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, will be validating the candidacy of Mr. Jonathan on Thursday.
He had emerged the party’s sole presidential candidate in November, amid controversy over the withdrawal of his challengers, Jelil Tafawa Balewa, son of Nigeria’s former Prime Minister, and Akasoba Duke-Abiola, widow of the late Moshood Abiola.
Indeed, Mrs. Duke-Abiola is insisting she is still in the presidential race.
The president had been adopted by all the organs of the party, including its governors.
However, Mr. Jonathan’s adoption will still be ratified through the process of election in line with Section 87 of the Electoral Act to avoid litigations that could lead to the disqualification of the president from the impending contest.
On his part, Mr. Mu’azu, a former governor of Bauchi State, was appointed the PDP national chairman in January following the resignation of Bamanga Tukur from the position.
Mr. Oladipo was inaugurated in September last year.
The last presidential primary of the PDP held on January 14, 2011, at the same venue, Eagles Square.
In that election, Mr. Jonathan slugged it out with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Sarah Jubril.
The result announced by the Chief Returning Officer, Tunde Adeniran, a former education minister, showed that Mr. Jonathan polled 2,736 votes to beat Mr. Abubakar who got 805 votes while Mrs. Jubril got one vote.
Mr. Abubakar has since defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, on whose platform he is contesting the primary today in Lagos. He is running against four other aspirants.
The president, who went ahead to win the main presidential election, compensated Mrs. Jubril with an appointment as Senior Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values.

£315m of Abacha's loot to return to Nigeria from The State Of Jersey!

Mr Micheal Birt, the Ballif of Jersey stated this at a dinner in honour of Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK during a state visit to the Island.
Birt, who doubles as the Island’s Civic Head of State and ceremonial head, is the highest ranking official in the Jersey order of precedence.
Island, famous for its transparent banking services, had previously repatriated in two tranches £140 million of the loot.

The Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports in
London that the money was laundered on behalf of Abacha by Mr Raj Bhojwani, an Indian businessman. Bhojwani is currently serving an eight-year sentence in a UK prison.
Speaking on Jersey’s financial services and global perception of the Island, Birt said that the repatriated loot was in line with ongoing campaign against money laundering.
He said: “We have done a lot to clean up the image of the Island as a safe haven for stolen wealth. What we have in place is a transparent and legal finance heaven where only legal funds can be deposited and accessed by investors.”
In his response, Tafida commended Birt for the Island’s transparent banking sector, and informed them of government’s commitment to fighting corruption and strengthening its anti-graft agencies.
The high commissioner also spoke on the investment opportunities in all sectors of the economy, while laying emphasis on the nation’s GDP, and high return on investment rate.
Nigeria’s GDP has grown above 6.5 per cent per annul in the last six years.
He said: “The array of investment opportunities that abound in the country and generous incentives available to investors in all sectors of the economy, has continued to make it a global investment destination.”
The dinner was attended by top officials from the Jersey government and members of Tafida’s delegation. NAN reports that the visit marks the beginning of a bi-lateral relations with the Jersey. Officials from Jersey are expected to carry out a similar visit to Nigeria.
