Youth Service Corps members who would be participating in the 2015
general elections have been assured of their safety during and after the
elections.
This assurance has been stressed by both the leadership of the
National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and the Independent National
Electoral Commission
Speaking with newsmen, The Director General of the NYSC scheme,
Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, said provision has been placed on
ground to ensure the protection of lives of NYSC members before, during
and after the electoral activities.
He revealed that the NYSC was partnering with some Nigeria security
agencies to see that the lives of all the corps members are protected
and also to ensure that their welfare and logistics were adequately
taken care of during the election.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Comminnisoner in Cross River State, Dr Okay
Ezeanyi, while visiting the NYSC secretariat in the state, equally
assured corps members that they would be secure. “It is the duty of INEC
to provide adequate security for corps members, who will be used as ad
hoc staff for the 2015 elections.”
While advising corps members to be of good conduct during the 2015
elections activities, Dr. Ezeanyi noted that they would be paid for
their services.

#2015PrimariesElections: PDP Presidential Primaries Updates.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has today begun its two-day National Convention at Eagles Square, Abuja.
Top on the agenda of the convention is the ratification of President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s candidate in the February 14 presidential election and that of Adamu Mu’azu and Wale Oladipo as the party’s national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
Over 3,050 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected at the convention.
The delegates, according to the party’s spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, will be validating the candidacy of Mr. Jonathan on Thursday.
He had emerged the party’s sole presidential candidate in November, amid controversy over the withdrawal of his challengers, Jelil Tafawa Balewa, son of Nigeria’s former Prime Minister, and Akasoba Duke-Abiola, widow of the late Moshood Abiola.
Indeed, Mrs. Duke-Abiola is insisting she is still in the presidential race.
The president had been adopted by all the organs of the party, including its governors.
However, Mr. Jonathan’s adoption will still be ratified through the process of election in line with Section 87 of the Electoral Act to avoid litigations that could lead to the disqualification of the president from the impending contest.
On his part, Mr. Mu’azu, a former governor of Bauchi State, was appointed the PDP national chairman in January following the resignation of Bamanga Tukur from the position.
Mr. Oladipo was inaugurated in September last year.
The last presidential primary of the PDP held on January 14, 2011, at the same venue, Eagles Square.
In that election, Mr. Jonathan slugged it out with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Sarah Jubril.
The result announced by the Chief Returning Officer, Tunde Adeniran, a former education minister, showed that Mr. Jonathan polled 2,736 votes to beat Mr. Abubakar who got 805 votes while Mrs. Jubril got one vote.
Mr. Abubakar has since defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, on whose platform he is contesting the primary today in Lagos. He is running against four other aspirants.
The president, who went ahead to win the main presidential election, compensated Mrs. Jubril with an appointment as Senior Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values.
Voting to ratify the appointments of the National Chairman, Adamu Mu'azu, the National Secretary, Wale Oladipo and the National Auditor has been concluded. The Electoral Committee headed by a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, is soritng out the votes and will announce the outcome soon.

PDP’s “Azonto dance party”: APC,PDP Trade Words Over Security Issues.
The relative peace between the nation’s two major political parties arising from the spate of insecurity in the land was shattered yesterday after Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and major political parties tore at one another over alleged indiscretions.
The PDP, at a press conference in Abuja, lampooned All Progressives Congress, APC, and its leaders and notably, the governor of Kano State who was vilified as an ingrate. The APC, in a riposte, ridiculed PDP as a clueless and callous party, saying that its spokesman, Chief Olisa Metuh, was diligently training himself to become the spokesman of the opposition after the 2015 general elections.
APC particularly accused PDP of mischief in its denunciation of the APC gubernatorial rally in Ekiti State, saying that its rally was remarkably different from what it called the PDP’s “Azonto dance party” in Kano just hours after the first Nyanya bombing last month. PDP, in a statement by its National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, vilified Kwankwanso for his recent attack on PDP, saying “whilst the PDP recognises the inalienable right of citizens to hold opinions and identify with political platforms of their choice, we indeed find it very difficult to understand the type of bitterness that have taken hold of an elected person like Governor Kwankwaso who hugely benefitted from PDP on which platform he was twice elected governor in addition to being appointed minister.” APC, in its statement, apparently reacted to the PDP statement of last Wednesday where the ruling party described the opposition party as one that celebrates terrorism on account of its campaign rally in Ekiti, a day after the Jos bombing. It said: “Despite the presence of musical groups and other performers, all musical breaks in the programme and all other scheduled performances were cut out, while the rally itself was drastically abridged. “There is no doubt that the PDP’s spokesman did not bother to get the full details of the rally before rushing to the media.”

Anambra Supplementary election: INEC commences distribution of materials
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has
commenced the distribution of materials for the supplementary
governorship election in Anambra scheduled for Nov. 30.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited INEC headquarters in Awka on Thursday, reports that many officials of the commission were seen collecting the materials.
The materials collected include inks and ballot papers, while the result sheets were still being waited for.
An official who spoke to NAN under the condition of anonymity said she was at the headquarters to collect the materials as was directed.
She confirmed that she had collected ink and ballot papers, but that she was yet to collect the result sheets for the exercise.
Mr Frank Egbo, INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the distribution of materials in an interview with NAN.
He added that the commission had been having several meetings to ensure that the exercise was hitch-free.
NAN recalls that INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had announced Nov. 30 as date for the Anambra supplementary election after the commission’s meeting on Nov. 22 in Abuja.
He said the supplementary election would hold in 210 polling units across six local government areas (LGAs) of the state, where elections were cancelled.
Jega had said there were no sufficient grounds or pieces of evidence to warrant a total cancellation of results of the Nov. 16 election which were already announced.(NAN)

" APC leaders suffer from severe desperation, political mediocrity & moral instability".- Michael Orodare
This further puts to question, the moral integrity (if at all it exists) of the APC leaders from Southwest – Bisi Akande and particularly Bola Tinubu who also prides himself as one of the heroes who fought against the annulment of the 1993 election by Babangida, but now cohabitate with the man whose action they fought both within the nation and while on exile. Is this how people become easily downgraded by their desperation?
From Adamawa state to Sokoto, Kano, Niger, Jigawa, Kwara, Rivers, and back to Niger state, I almost became confused as rhetorical questions begging for answers started flying into my heads from every quarters, what are they looking for? Does that mean anybody is now fit to be like one of them and what they proudly call themselves? Interestingly, I know the 2013 edition of Gulder Ultimate Search ended some weeks ago, so I believe it cannot definitely be another search for a missing treasure.
As I became more baffled, I remembered what desperation can cause to a man, he won’t stop at anything until he gets what he’s desperately salivating for. This is exactly the case of the ‘progressive’ leaders of the newly formed mega opposition party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Often times, these progressive proponents in the mega opposition party have proved to us their true unstable moral background, they’ve proved to us that anybody, even the dreaded Benin armed robber, late Lawrence Anini and any other notorious human on earth can be a progressive, as far as they associate with their party.
Any successful business firm, a well-managed one does not go about hunting for employees, but throw the vacancy option open to the public and interested candidates to apply, and through its body of highly-experienced panel, choose the skilled workman best suitable for the job to fill the different openings as doing otherwise will only plunge the firm into a state of catastrophe, which is the path the APC is threading with its desperation to bring everybody (both enemies and friend of the masses) together in one boat, a resultant end which cannot be nothing short from a fiasco.
It was therefore interesting reading reports of these visits to the ‘rebel’ governors and former leaders. On the list of those visited to port to the APC is Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, whose sons are presently in EFCC net over allegation of siphoning billions of naira of Jigawa state money to fund their business ventures overseas; confirming that Lamido is a a role-model and true progressive.
And the most fascinating of all the visits is the one to woo former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida to the APC exactly two decades after he abrogated the adjudged freest and fairest election so far in the history of this nation. On this I’m more concerned about APC leaders from the Southwest who have never stopped denigrating IBB since the June 12 1993 election.

Is this how people become easily downgraded by their desperation?
Like I have always argued, one does not need a depth of vision to see that the self-acclaimed progressivism of the APC leaders is just another bait to cajole the masses, after the failed “Awo descendants” cliche used as a bait in the Southwest in the last political dispensation.
They are the same set of people who castigated Dr Frederick Fasehun, founder of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) to the highest heavens with all their media mercenaries for hobnobbing with former CSO to former Head of State, Late Sani Abacha, Major General Hamzat Al-mustapha after the latter was set free recently.
With the recent show of the APC leaders to court everybody to their party, it’s becoming more evident to the people and those who see them as messiahs, that the opposition leaders are only moved by the desperation of what they want – federal power, they care less about how it comes, theirs is about whatever it takes we will give, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, they just want it and they are ready to go any length to achieve this lustful desire for power at the federal level.
Nigerians know what they want and they can see clearly the distinction between the self-acclaimed ‘progressives’ and those tagged by their media mercenaries as ‘conservatives,’ the difference is just as thick as the cobweb.
Where morality and integrity is not esteemed before everything else, it is impossible to have a firmly established democrats.
I believe ideology should not only be in theoretical concept, but also in deeds and actions, as in the cult of desperation, men become slaves to trickled-down theory they will never practice once they grab power.
‘The people is well-fitted to choose its own magistrate,’ says Baron de Montesquieu, in this case, the people is not only well-fitted, but also well enlightened to discern the hypocrisy, political mediocrity and myopicrity currently at play by our APC leaders as gradually inch near the 2015 elections.

Anambra on Wednesday was thrown into Pandemonium as women protested against the Election that was conducted on Saturday. Reports gathered was that the protesters known as the 'Anambra Women' wanted a cancellation of gubernatorial election and are against the yet fixed Supplementary Election Date.
Nigerian Policemen in their well known duty fired Tear gas into the air to dispersed the women injuring majority especially the elderly women among the protesters.
Mrs.
Tina Akonobi, one of the leaders of the protesters, said they were at
the INEC's office to “mourn for the disaster, destruction, doom,
robbery and fraud that took place on the November 16.”
“The election was a sham aimed at insulting the integrity, intelligence and intellectual ability of the people of the state and Nigeria in general.“INEC brought a fraudulent register three days to election where they removed names of voters whose name starts with the letter ‘O’ like Okonkwo and Okeke at Idemili.“They brought fraudulent people to conduct election here; it was a scam and destruction of a generation and Igbo land.“We are calling for the cancellation and resignation of Prof. Attahiru Jega for the doom that is impending because this is what will happen in 2015,” she stated.

Anambra Guber:"I Did Not Rig Alone" - Arrested INEC Official
A principal actor in the controversial Anambra governorship election of November 16 has reportedly made sterling revelations to his interrogators in Abuja.
Mr Okeke Chukwujekwu, the electoral officer in charge of Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, currently in police detention over his role in the electoral saga, was said to have told his police investigators that he was “being used and dumped”.
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, had, in the heat of the controversies generated by the flawed poll, admitted that the “electoral officer” in Idemili North “messed up” and that he would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
Chukwujekwu was moved to Abuja on Sunday, just as INEC said it was conducting a probe into the deliberate sabotage of the governorship election.
A top official involved in the election confided in LEADERSHIP yesterday that the arrested INEC official had made useful statements even as he was apprehensive that top directors of INEC might be “implicated”.
“The way this whole thing is going, it looks as if many heads will roll in INEC because the young man has made useful statements and if what he said is anything to rely upon, it then means that some big names in that commission might fall with him.
“At first, he was trying to rationalise his action in that local government area when he was verbally quizzed before the intervention of the police; but, after some time, especially at the point of his detention, he started to cooperate but the cooperation is loaded because he has mentioned some top officials of INEC, especially directors and a PDP chieftain, as those who ‘put him in trouble’.
Although the source declined to disclose the identities of those involved, he said “preliminary confessions” point to the fact that the bungled election in most LGAs of the state was “packaged by aggrieved politicians in connivance with top INEC officials both in Abuja and Awka” adding: “It was a well-funded package.”
“All fingers point to some aggrieved politicians and it was a well-funded package that involved quite a lot of people; that is why the man is saying he has been used and dumped,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jega has said all enquiries regarding arrests made in the bungled Anambra election should be referred to the police.
Jega’s chief press secretary, Kayode Idowu, told LEADERSHIP on the telephone that INEC would not comment on the arrested official who allegedly played a key role in the flawed poll.
“One, I cannot say anything on his matter because the police has taken over a larger chunk of the matter; only the police can say something on the role of the man arrested and how far they have gone with their investigation; so you have to contact the police.
“Again, it will be out of place for me to reel out what the commission intends to do. Mind you, INEC is also carrying out its administrative interrogation on his matter,” he said.
INEC does not need court order to cancel tainted poll - APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused INEC of being economical with the truth by saying only the courts can order the cancellation of last Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra in which about 1.3 million of the 1.7 million registered voters were unable to exercise their franchise.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its interim national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party reminded INEC that it did not wait for a court order to cancel the National Assembly elections in 2011 when it was obvious that many voters across the country could not vote due to the late arrival or non-delivery of voting materials.
‘’In announcing the cancellation of the National Assembly election in 2011, INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega said, among others, that it was to ‘maintain the integrity of the elections and retain effective overall control of the process’,’’ it said.
APC said the situation in Anambra last Saturday was even more serious because, in addition to the fact that voting materials were either late or not delivered at all, most voters were disenfranchised by an INEC official who apparently tampered with the 2011 voters’ register for the state.
‘’Therefore, there are more compelling reasons now to cancel the Anambra governorship election than what led to the cancellation and rescheduling of the National Assembly election in 2011, unless of course INEC is still acting out the script handed to it for the ill-fated election,’’ the party said.
Apologise to Nigerians, HURIWA, TCN tell Jega
In a related development, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and the Transparency Center Network (TCN) have asked INEC chairman Prof Attahiru Jega to apologise to Nigerians for the apparent failure and administrative flaws that marred the November 16, 2013, governorship poll in Anambra State.
The groups also asked the hierarchy of the electoral body to name, shame and prosecute all the electoral officials that in one way or the other colluded with reactionary political forces to undermine the transparent conduct of the bungled election which was declared inconclusive.
According to the groups, the bulk of blame and responsibility lies with INEC which is constitutionally empowered to conduct free, fair and transparent elections nationally.
The groups stated this in a joint statement signed by the national coordinator of HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, who is also the deputy chief of mission for Transparency Center Network (TCN), an officially accredited election observer to the Anambra election, as well as the national director of media affairs of HURIWA, Miss Zainab Yusuf.
They noted that the failure of INEC in Anambra is an unfortunate foretaste of what may happen in 2015 unless and except comprehensive reforms are executed in INEC by the National Assembly to make it transparent, accountable, effective and efficient.

APC Demands For The Cancellation Of Anambra's Election From INEC.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has
rejected the announcement by the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) to hold a supplementary election and insisted on total
cancellation of the election.
Interim national publicity secretary of
APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement said the party is also calling
on INEC to come clear on how the election was sabotaged from within the
electoral commission itself, with a view to establishing how entrenched
the forces of evil within the commission are and also to avert a looming
national disaster iAPC said it is now apparent that INEC is indeed not
taking seriously the opinions of Anambra residents as well as local and
foreign observers that most of the registered voters in the state were
willfully disenfranchised on Saturday.
‘’First, the electoral commission proposed make-up election in only 65 polling units in Obosi before scaling things up to a supplementary election ‘in those areas where election was cancelled’. But we say, without equivocating, that a total cancellation of the election and the organization of a fresh poll, under the supervision of a credible Resident Electoral Commissioner, will be acceptable to our party,’’ it said.
The party also challenged INEC to quickly carry out an internal investigation to determine the extent to which Saturday’s election was sabotaged and compromised to the embarrassment of the nation, saying what occurred on Saturday may actually be treasonable.
It however said is not enough for INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to tell the nation that an INEC official sabotaged the election in a certain part of the state, saying INEC must tell the nation fellow and who he/she is working for.
The party said the INEC chairman must also tell Nigerians why 16 Electoral Commissioners, who migrated to Anambra days before the election ostensibly to supervise things, could not ensure the success of an election in a single state, when even a polling unit behind the INEC office in Awka did not get voting materials till after 9 am on election day.
APC also accused the PDP of being an accessory to the electoral malfeasance going by the statement credited to the party that the election was free and fair.
